1.   The apostle John was absolutely certain about the truthof the gospel. But for us, there is a big difference between wondering if a thing is true and being absolutely convinced. Just for fun, go through the following list and record your “certainty level” next to each item.

Lesson Questions:

1.   Summarize John’s teaching about prayer.

2.   What responsibility do we have for each, according to verse 16?

3.   What did John mean when he talked about the sin leading to the death (vv.16-17)?

4.   How did John reiterate his theme of truth in this closing passage (v. 20)?

5.   How can a Christian keep himself or herself from idols (v. 21)?

6.   What additional light do these verses in Hebrews shed on prayer? Why can we come before God with confidence?

7.   How can a believer know if he or she is praying “according to God’s will” (1 John 5:14)?

8.   According to this passage, why should we regard sin (in ourselves and in others) as a really big deal?

9.   Do verses 18-19 promise that Christians will not be attacked by Satan or that we will be exempt from all persecution and testing? How do you know?

11.               As you conclude your study of 1 John, take a moment to quickly skim through the boo. Then reflect on the following questions:

A.  What sin do I need to forsake?

B.  What new insight do I gain about Christ?

C.  What promise will I cling to?

D.  What command do I need to obey?
