To Hear This Lesson on Total-Deliverance Radio Show

Chapter 6:

LOVE 1 John 4:7-21

Drawing Near:

  • 1. How is Love depicted in television shows and movies? Considering our culture’s high divorce rate, how do most people seem to define marital love?
  • 2. When in your life have you been the most overwhelmed by the reality of God’s love for YOU?

Lesson Questions:

  • 1. Where does love come from, and what are the ramifications of this for those who claim to be Christians?
  • 2. How has God demonstrated His love?
  • 3. Based on verse 12, why is it imperative that Christians be marked by God’s love?
  • 4. In what ways did John insist that love leads to confidence and not fear?
  • 5. How did John expose the lies we often live out (vv. 20-21)? How is love to be expressed?

Going Deeper:  Scriptures: John 15:9-17

Exploring the Meaning:

  • 6. According to Jesus, how can we abide in His love?
  • 7. How does Jesus define the kind of love He is talking about?
  • 8. According to John, why is it impossible to love God and hate our neighbor at the same time? (vv. 20-21)?
  • 9. What “safeguards” did John include in his description of love, to keep his readers from thinking of love as a nebulous, fuzzy, vague, sentimental feeling?
  • 10. Base on 1 John 4:7-21, what does a God-honoring love look like in a believer’s life?

Truth for Today: John 13:34-35

Reflecting on the Text:

  • 11. How do you apply in your life the statement, “We love because He first loved us”?
  • 12. A failure to see God in His holiness can breed irreverence. A failure to grasp God’s grace and love can lead to unhealthy fear. In your own relationship with God, are you motivated more by love or fear? Why? What can you do to find a healthy balance?

Personal Response:
